Too Young to Die, Help us bloom and blossom

WE ARE TOO YOUNG TO DIE

HELP MAKE LIFE MERRIER FOR US

Merry Christmas to everyone everywhere on this planet and others.

On this auspicious day let us accept the fact that, only the one, who creates life has the right to take it away.In the name of peace, we fight wars,In the name of god we commit heinous crimes. We claim divinity in devilish acts.

Even Animals don't kill the preys without good enough reason. It is only the human race that works for self extinction.

Can we make this Christmas and the one coming in the future merrier for the people whose dear one are fighting ceaseless, meaningless wars the world over.

We take pride in fighting the brutality against animals. How about the brutality against the innocent members of the human race. So many innocents are killed in the armed engagement sponsored by the Governments and the terrorists.

Let us raise our voice, let the voices multiply, let the reverberations of these voices be so loud and clear that it makes everyone to shun violence, and resort to peaceful engagement to solve the problems.

Let us work to make Christmas merry for everyone, everywhere on this planet.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2012,

Shyam

The Incomplete story 11-27

Shyam’s first attempt at short story writing remains incomplete for want of ideas. Readers are requested to use their creativity & complete the story.

Vaikuntha Lata and the “Battle of the Bulge”

“The Incomplete story”

Note: This story having Tamil family background has no specific significance.  It could have been any other ethnic group. ( I am not a Tamilian.)

However,Tamil is the most popular regional language in India, and you can't find an Indian who doesn't know at least the three words 'AAMA' 'UPMA' and 'ILLAI'

Thambi Selvan was a very normal middle class gentleman taking care of his wife and two children with the salary he received as a clerk in a Government office in Chennai. Thrift was his main attribute, and he hardly had any expenses. He travelled mostly in Buses or local trains & carried his trademark four box tiffin carrier for lunch, with a plantain leaf tied to it. He used to find the coffee offered by others tastier than the one for which spent money. Hence he never spent money on Tea and Coffee.

However his thrift did not come in the way of his wife Janaki spending lavishly for pujas and other religious events in the house. At least once in a month, they used to have an elaborate religious ritual followed by a sumptuous lunch. The lunch prepared by Janaki used to be so tasty, that people used to look forward to an invitation from the Selvans.

Selvan’s evening journey back home from office would invariably have two stops.              The Poo Kadai (flower shop). And the Vinayaga Kovil (Ganesh Temple). He knew the flowers would make Janaki happy, and that was the only thing she expected from Selvan. At the Vinayaga temple, he used to narrate the day’s happening to the lord. Most of the times, he felt that god listened to him and gave him sad-buddhi (noble thoughts) to be a better person the next day. But sometimes he felt that god was out of the calling area and his message may not have reached him. He used to console himself, “one vinayaga, and so many people to care off; an occasional network failure is understandable”. Suddenly a smile would come on his face at the weirdness of thinking.

Selvan was a very dotting father, very possessive, very supportive about his children. He was very lucky to have a girl Vaikuntha Lata (Vaiki) in her early twenties and a son Daivaguna (Daigi) five years younger than her. In spite of his not so healthy financial status, Selvan had ensured his children had good education from reputed Institutions. For this he had to borrow money from friends and the Bank. Vaiki had completed her MBA from a reputed B. School with good academics and bagged a job as an executive secretary to the Managing Director of a large Indian organization dealing in heavy equipments related to civil engineering and infrastructure. She was earning a decent salary, with which she could pay off the bank instalment.

For once everything seemed very rosy for Selvan including his financial position. But then, it was too good a situation to last long.

One day Selvan and Janaki decided to visit the Ganesh Temple in the nearby village to offer prayers to the lord. Their new found affluence allowed them to hire a cab for the journey. While returning from the temple, their vehicle met an unfortunate accident and both were killed on the spot.

Vaiki’s boss Ranjit Kapoor was a large hearted man, nice and considerate, and was of great help to her in coming out of the emotional stress. He was almost a father figure to her. In spite of her grief, Vaiki was very committed to her work and profession. She not only completed her tasks judiciously, she also contributed with creative ideas, which brought increased business, revenue, profits for the organisation.
Three years passed by...
Vaiki cleared all the loans and was just comfortable financially. Daigi also completed his graduation. Ranjit who had taken keen interest in Daigi’s education suggested he be sent to a foreign country for his MBA in an international B-School and offered him employment after completion of his education. Vaiki immediately accepted the suggestion and raised loans from her known sources, Ranjit also helped with his personal money, though he could not extend official loan to her. Thus Vaiki managed the finances without approaching a bank. With Ranjit’s influence, Daigi was admitted in a B-School of international repute in United States.
Vaiki’s hard work and dedication paid dividends. She was promoted with appropriate hike in her package. She was made the head of the Customer Relations Management Division. She had the responsibility to entertain important clients and close deals. She did this job meticulously. Her earnings and the responsibilities both increased with every deal she closed. She always walked the extra mile to please the customer, but ensured that her chastity remained intact. In spite of all these earnings too, she was finding sustaining her brother’s expenses in United States very difficult, but she always managed to ensure that her brother had the money when he needed. She freely discussed this with Ranjit, but even he could do very little.

And “The Battle of Bulge”…..

One day Ranjit suggested something so shocking that it would have taken the life out any ordinary women. But then, Vaiki was no ordinary women. She too was shocked, but only for moment. She regained her composure and said “OK but see that Daigi doesn’t come to know about it.” This was a service to the customers that affected her chastity. They had engaged call girls all these years, now Ranjit wanted her to extend this service to the customers and use the extra earnings to repay her loans.

Now while the purse kept bulging with every engagement, there was another “Battle of bulge” she had to fight. With the new responsibilities, she had to take to pills to keep herself safe. This resulted in bulging waistline. This was the “Battle of bulge” she had to constantly fight to maintain herself and look presentable. The over medication started telling on her health, which started going down. Seeing this Ranjit immediately shifted her from that job to a job where she did not have any connection with the customers. She just had to come to office   work for few hours and return home. As the loans were all paid up, she had peace of mind also. Her health started improving.

Daigi completed his MBA with flying colours and on return was absorbed by Ranjit with a good salary and perks. Daigi was however shocked to see her sister’s health condition and came to know the reality through friends. He was so upset that he wanted his sister to resign her job and take rest at home improve her health, so that, he could marry her off to an understanding and broad minded Gentleman. Vaiki would have none of it; she wanted to work, as the work was no longer strenuous. Ranjit again mediated between the siblings and came with a solution acceptable to both, according to which Vaiki could stay at home and work on specific tasks entrusted to her and get paid as per task delivered.

After a sustained struggle for existence, that at one stage looked eternal, the siblings settled down to a peaceful and settled life. Vaiki used to take care of the household chores and at her convenience work on the projects assigned. Daigi worked very hard to contribute to the organization and his professional growth. Evenings they used to sit and chat endlessly about all the topics in the world, society, not so glorious past, and their parents. This also included an occasional tip or suggestion from the Vaiki to her younger brother.

Ranjit was impressed with Daigi dedication and slowly started entrusting him with larger responsibilities. One such responsibility put both Daigi speechless.

Ranjit came across a global tender that could make his organization richer by a few millions.  This he thought Daigi with his modern management acumen could execute successfully. Daigi accepted the project with glee and got busy working on the financial & other aspects of the project. The bid was finally submitted in time. The first hurdle was crossed when their company was shortlisted among the top five organizations in the world, one of whom would eventually be awarded the project after technical inspection.

Date for technical inspection was fixed and one Mr. Rogers was to visit the organization. Ranjit asked Daigi to spare no effort or money to make Mr. Rogers happy in all aspects. For this an open ended budget was granted to Daigi with no audits or approvals. It took just a day for Daigi to prepare the plan, and next morning he was in Ranjit’s chambers to discuss it & take his approval.

One glance at the paper brought a nod in approval from Ranjit. It seemed that he was ok with both the budget and the plan.

“It is Ok” he said “You can take more money also if you need, but are you sure it will result in positive decision from Mr. Rogers??” he asked with an apprehensive look. “I am worried about the last item, will it bring desired results???” (Last item on the budget always used to entertainment.)

“Can we get people, who would not only entertain him, but be savvy enough to get the conversion?”
“I will get the best possible entertainer and conversion too.” Daigi said confidently.

Ranjit shook his head, still not convinced, “We need to get this deal, at any cost, we simply cannot afford to fail” he said a bit pensively.

Daigi was a bit perplexed, a bit confused. He had never seen Ranjit so desperate so inhibited. Ranjit he knew, was a very confident man, he never bothered about results. He believed in giving his best, he knew that in business you gain some lose some. Now this was not about some deal or one more deal. This would take his organization to the next level, “The upper crest” in business, reputation, turnover, and of course profits. No way could he lose it. All the competitors were equal, some even better, He knew, that, all things being equal, the last item on the list could give an edge to the organization.

There was total silence for some time. It appeared Ranjit wanted to say something, but somehow hesitated. Daigi not knowing what to do was aimlessly drawing circles on his note pad.

Slowly Ranjit raised his head and started slowly, “I have an idea Daigi, an idea that would get both entertainment and conversion”

The circles stopped suddenly on Daigi’s pad. He raised his head and was all attention & curious to listen to his boss.

Ranjit began slowly and hesitatingly, in an almost inaudible tone he asked.

“How about Vaiki for the last item”

Now readers, here is where my pen got stuck and story remained incomplete. I request the readers to use their creativity to complete the story.

I am now the audience, eagerly waiting for the intelligent inputs from the readers.

Management+ 10-13

Important note

I am receiving a lot of queries through mails and comments asking for more information on Management+.

Here is my explanation.

 Thanks for your comments.

These virtual classes are not affiliated to any University or academy. This is aptly named Management+, because it is a very humble effort on my part to narrow the gap between, what the industry requires and what the academy delivers.

These classes are in addition to what is being already taught in the institute. As such it is a value addition to what is already being taught, and an empowerment tool for the students,

I have had the privilege of being associated with both academy and industry. The vast number of candidates I interviewed during the past few years seemed to lack the wherewithal required for the jobs.

My association with the prestigious management institutions like Harvard, Mckinsey, Balance Score Card community, and others have placed me at position where I have access to most modern and regularly updated management resources.

I would like to share these and various case studies and white pages with the students so that they are acquainted with the practical side of management resources and their applications.

I am also in the process of associating some more global management institutes in the endeavor.

Coming to virtual class rooms. These are the interactive classes delivered live to the computers of the students and the management institutes.

Management+ are the classes delivered free to the management students located any where in the world. We only charge Rs.200 towards registration per class to take care of our administrative expenses, for which we will be occasionally sending free case studies or white papers.
The process details and other information is already there on this page

Thanks once again for your interest.

Best wishes,

Shyam

Collaborators for Vidya Nidhi

“Vidya Nidhi” would now like to collaborate with Universities-Schools, Academies, of international repute located preferably in USA. The minimum pre-requisite is a decent global ranking and respectable ranking in USA from the prestigious Ranking institutions like US News, Bloomberg, Financial Times, and others. We are only looking at Tier One Institutions. India has a wealth of talent of and is a warehouse of quality content, however these are already accessible to the Indian Institutions and Academies, We are looking at premium content and imparting technologies not presently accessible to the Indian Institutions.

United States has always led the world in developing new technologies and streams in imparting of management domains, in fact in all the education domains. This is proven by the fact that the highest number of Noble Laureates are from United States. We want the same to reach the students in other regions of the third world, especially rural India. We are also looking to collaborate with Institutions imparting in the areas of Development Management   (Not for Profit), International Policy, Advocacy, Fund Raising, and any other stream applicable to the third world and BRIC countries.

“Vidya Nidhi” was conceived after years of research in to the education system in India, followed by visits to the campuses in Andhra Pradesh interaction with the students, the faculty, the management on one side, and interaction with the senior and “C” level managers through various social media platforms on the other side. These have helped us in need assessment of the corporates, and in identifying the lacunae in the management education. Based on the data collected we have drawn some conclusions.“Vidya Nidhi” is an effort to create facilitation to help remove the lacunae.

The management scenario in the world is that, there some extraordinary institutions, where every student that enters is not only assured of a well paid job but also a meaningful career growth. There are many other decent Institutions which are less empowered but still the student is assured of a decent job. But majority of the Institutions that impart Management Education leave the students to fend for themselves they eventually land up in jobs which neither pay well nor lead to a career growth. We would like help these institutes to raise the bar and position their aspirations a notch higher to compete with the best, and produce highly empowered students. For the institutes that are already producing good management students. We would like to hone their management skills and add Finesse to their attributes.

“Vidya Nidhi” is in the process of evolving a new Phyllotaxy in Management imparting

“Vidya Nidhi” is a global platform for imparting management education through “Virtual Class Room” with each classroom having just one institute as a recipient of the stream, with the stream customized to the needs of that particular institution.

We are almost through our Alpha stage and planning to launch the Beta version soon. We are in the process of receiving applications from the Management schools. We will start the short listing process soon to select our partners for implementing the Beta stage. The main version will be launched during the academic sessions 2012-2013.

We would like “Vidya Nidhi” to be a full-fledged web portal with knowledge center, Research center, an open house for the people to express themselves and involve in fruitful discussion. It will be more less a self contained virtual University. Everything will be in the cloud, and ultimate aim is to have a cloudy world.A world full of clouds, that rain knowledge everywhere.

You are welcome to join us in this Endeavour, if you meet our minimum eligibility criteria, please join in creating “Vidya Nidhi” the wealth in the form of Knowledge. Please contact us HERE

Virtual Class room 08-28

"Vidya Nidhi" The virtual class rooms by CBD. A program to facilitate the management colleges specially in Rural areas not in a position to access the best in ,Faculty, Content, & curriculum planning

Management Institution: wherever you are located, you raise the bar; we will help you cross it. Please use our “Online Imparting” through “Virtual Classrooms” at fraction of costs you incur for various resources, and take your institution to the next level.

Educational Institutions, Management Academies, now that the admission process has been completed and serious imparting has begun, it is time to consolidate and acquire values that could take you to a position where you can compete with the next level of institutions.

Getting employment for your students was a goal you all strived to fulfill last year and succeeded. This year you may be looking to raise the bar and ensure that the employment you provide, gives them higher quality in terms of professional and monetary satisfaction.

This naturally needs a comparative scaling up in imparting standards,& study materials. The improvement in the quality of materials, case studies, and the exposure to the real time market realities is the acute need. The best of the institutions sometimes find it difficult to source all these. The budget constraints are the biggest road blocks to the fulfillment of desires and aspirations and as always can create a big gap between the objectives and achievements. But now you can get all this and more at the fraction of the costs.

We at Capacity Building & Development (CBD) are constantly working at bringing improvement in the quality of resources, and finally, international recognition has come our way in some measure. This year your Shyam was fortunate enough to be on the executive panels of two of the best global organizations namely Mckinsey & Company and Balance Score Card community’s Palladium. The Palladium projects are sponsored by Harvard Business School and Microsoft Corporation.

We have devised a unique virtual way of sharing these resources with the management institutions the world over. Yes this is a global program not constrained by the Geographical boundaries. The package will consist of virtual class lectures in all the streams of management. Special imparting on Entrepreneurship, Social Entrepreneurship, Balance Score Card, Lean Manufacturing & Management, Digital Marketing & Social Media empowerment and management will be imparted.

If the institutions are in India we will visit the institutions discuss and evaluate and design a need based package. We will also allow you to use our name in your promotions. Shyamsunder Panchavati is already an established name in management globally. His knowledge and contribution to the management domain have been recognized by global corporates like Mckinsey & Company, & Palladium Group. Apart from these he is a featured author on wikiHow and Silicon India. He has delivered guest lectures at many educational institutions & Corporates. His articles command huge readership on CBD and many other social media platforms and blogs. Especially people in the education & imparting field follow his articles. This is reflected by the presence 26% people among his 968 Linkedin followers from the education domain.

Those institutions not in India the discussions can be through Skype or telephone. After the discussions, the requirements will be identified and a correct package will be designed at an affordable price. Initially the imparting will be done by Shyamsunder Panchavati, later on as per the need we will hire faculties, and budget permitting we would try to purchase some resources and case studies from Harvard & Wharton and other reputed institutions. At the time of finalizing the agreement we will clearly state the resources we will provide and they will be specific and different for each Institution.

Mode of Imparting:

The mode of imparting will be “Virtual” through live online classrooms. However it will not be through webinars. We will be using a more customized method and the class room will be for one specific institution only. it will naturally be interactive and students will have the facility to ask questions. There is no limit to the number of students per classroom. All you will need is high speed internet connection a computer and a LCD projector. The imparting will be with the help of lecture, power point presentations and video. We will use the most modern Google+ Hangout for the transmission. We will help out the institutions in getting Google+ id if not already available.

There is another situation where the virtual classroom will be useful for the institution. In case there is a situation, where the faculty has left and for various reasons the vacancy cannot be fulfilled. We will, depending on the availability of time and resources, take the responsibility of imparting the subject through virtual classroom.

Or you are located in rural part or countryside where good faculty is hesitating to come; you can utilize our services to impart quality knowledge to your students. We are open to all and totally committed to take you a few notches higher in the standards.

There can be many more applications of this virtual classroom, which we will develop on the basis of the feedback we receive from the educational institutions. Please use the “Virtual Class Room” form  to contact us.

One last but most important thing, based on the package, some of the Institutions will qualify for being mentioned and promoted on some of our various blogs. We will also give coverage on our upcoming “Knowledge Korridor”  to some of the Institutions, again depending on the package.

We may not be in a position to answer request received through Linkedin, Facebook, or Google+ comments.

Please also come out with new suggestions you have regarding the applications related to the virtual classrooms.

Please use the form to contact us. We will send you the procedure for further interaction. Please use the institution email id as a contact address. We will verify each and every email id before proceeding further. We will try to reply to each and every mail as far as possible and as soon as possible. Selection will depend on the Institution’s evaluation and our capacity to deliver.

Things you should not do.

Please don’t,

1.       Ask us to send a quotation. We cannot, we do not have any readymade uniform package for all.

2.       Ask us minimum or maximum package value. There is no uniformity in price or delivery.

3.       Ask us for a free demo class. We value your time and our inputs.

4.       Ask us for a telephone detailing if you are in India. We don’t have manpower to handle it.

Ideally we would like to start with a very small group of people or institutions who have been following Shyam’s writings and are familiar with it, and in a position to entrust this responsibility to him.. Next academic year when we have the stats and success ratio we will approach the others

Best wishes,

Shyam

Is Money Everything?? 11-29

Is Money Everything???

Is Money Everything???

I know everyone can contribute on this, I also know that most of you are willing & eager to contribute. In fact I need all the views and perspectives. As for me, I am confused and what you see is loud thinking being shared with my friends and social media community members.
It is not an article, it is just a chain of thoughts passing through my mind presented in the order they have come. My apologies, if you find this monotonous and disjointed. I am not rechecking or organizing it. I want to keep the original order.
I hope you like it. Starting with a Telugu verse.

nidhi cāla sukhamā
rāmuni sannidhi sēva sukhamā
nijamuga palku manasa

निधि चाला सुखमा

रामुनी सन्निधि सेवा सुखामा

निजमु गा पलुकु मनसा

 Nidhi: Wealth
Sannidhi: Divine presence
Meaning:
Is [possessing] wealth a greater pleasure
or is service in Rama's presence a greater pleasure?
Answer me truthfully, O Mind!

This is what the great Telugu Saint Tyagaraja said more than 200 years ago
Tyagaraja composed devotional songs in carnatic music. His compositions are sung and admired by musicians all over the world
After 200 years also the question still remains unanswered……
There are people who feel that divine sannidhi is greatest of all nidhis, a person can acquire during a life time. Sannidhi (Divine presence) is not related to any one religion or faith. It is above religions and faith. Every seeker irrespective of the faith yearns for it.
There are people for whom nidhi is most important acquisition, and in which they find the divine sannidhi.

There are people who pretend to to be working for attaining divine bliss. They have all sorts of weird appearances and clothing. These are all serving saints. Why do they do this.

Totakacharya 8th Century C E saint and the disciple, whom the Adi Shankara loved most and whom he installed as the first Jagatguru of Jyotirmatha pitham near Badrinath, wrote this verse of Bhaja Govindam. In this he explains why people do what they do.

(It is a well known fact that only some of the verses were written by Adi Sankara himself.Rest were written by his disciples)

JATILO- MUNDI LUNCHITA-KESHAH
KAASHAAYAAMBARA- BAHU-KRITA-VESHAH
PASYANNAPI CHA NA PASYATI MOODHA
HIUDARA-NIMITAM BAHU-KRITA-VESHAH

जटिलो मुण्डी लुंचितकेशः
काषायांबरबहुकृतवेषः ।
पश्यन्नपि च न पश्यति मूढः
 उदरनिमित्तं बहुकृतवेषः

The  ascetic with matted locks, the man with the shaven head or one with hair pulled out, or the man parading in the ochre robes    — they all have eyes but yet do not see. All these are but  deceptions for cheating the world, for filling their bellies.  (Renunciation does not lie in external appearance, but in inward thought, attitude and feeling).

What is the real wealth???

This is what Adi Shankara said in His Bhaja Govindam about wealth

müãha jahèni dhanágamatøúïám
kuru sadbuddhim manasi vitøúïám,
yal-labhase nijakarmopáttam
vittam tena vinodaya cittam.(2)

"O fool! leave off the desire for accumulation of wealth; create in the mind, thoughts about Reality, devoid of passion. What you get - i.e. what you have achieved through your past deeds - with that, satisfy your mind."

Adi shankara feels that the real wealth is, the soul that is content and enjoys is existence.
I feel it is not wise to either agree or disagree with either. It is all a case of circumstances, environment, Karma and Dharma.
What if the lure of money was not there?? Would people still work?? One’s need for money is fulfillment of some other need for other. Is earning money also societal??
How much of it is societal, and beyond which point is it greed??
Now what is greed??
What is right and what is wrong???
For a King or emperor expanding his domain is considered a prime duty, even if it involves war and loss of lives.
For a businessman making profits, even if it involves falsehood is the dharma.
This takes us back again to the question, and what is wrong and what is right??

Samarth Ramdas the Marathi saint poet of Chatrpati Shivaji’s time has this to say
मना सज्जना भक्ती पंथेची जावे
तरी श्री हरी पाविजे तो स्वभावे
जनी- निन्ध्यते सर्वे सोडुनी द्यावे
जनी वन्द्यते सर्व भावे करावे!

Meaning:

Let us follow the path of honesty and devotion. This path will lead us to Shri Hari. Let us shun everything that is condemned and do everything that is commendable with the full devotion of mind.]

Appears reasonable because, what is good and correct, changes with time.

Here is what Narsimh Mehta the Guajarati poet says in his famous song that Mahatma Gandhi liked to sing as bhajan.
वैष्णव जन तो तेने कहिये जे पीड पराई जाणे रे,
पर दु:खे उपकार करे तोये मन अभिमान  आणे रे,
A true Vaishnav (devotee) is one who understands the pain of others.
Now coming to others, who are “others”???
For some, “others” are people outside family, people other than wife, children, and parents..
For some, even parents are others.
For some there are no others. Every human being is a part of their family.
Now how do you define the term selfless??  It is doing something without expecting any returns for self.
How do you define “returns”??? Does it include only materialistic gain??? Is soul satisfaction a return???
Is a feeling of well being, a return???
Is there an act or a deed that doesn’t give any of the above????
In the above context, can there be a selfless act. If there is an act, which doesn’t give satisfaction, physical, mental, spiritual or soul satisfaction,
Then what is selflessness, what is tyaga (sacrifice)? , what is vyragya (renunciation)?
Aadi Shankara has this to say in Bhaja Govindam
सुरमन्दिर तरु मूल निवासः
शय्या भूतला मजिनं वासः
सर्व परिग्रह भोग त्यागः
कस्य सुखं  करोति विरागः

A real parityagi (hermit): No one can disturb the peace of mind and vairaagya, if one is willingly taking shelter in some temples, under some trees, sleeping on the naked ground, wearing a
deer skin, and thus renouncing all idea of possession and thirst to enjoy life.

Well,I started with money, and reached parityaga,I will end it here before  my mind goes further astray and roams aimlessly into wilderness.

Thanks for your patience.

If you find this disjointed, you are welcome to put this thing in order. I am open to views and opinion, and yes ready to get educated.
Best wishes,
Shyam
